A family-run distillery based in Glasgow has won the coveted prize of best scotch in the world at the Scottish Whisky Awards.
RAER, which is an independent distiller, has won the Gold Medal awards for the second year in a row, this year for its Pedro Jimenez Expression. Last year’s award was scooped up by the distiller’s Oloroso Expression.
According to the whisky experts who have sampled the spirit and cast their votes, the Pedro Jimenez Expression is noted for its “unique profile, offering a luxurious combination of bold, oaky richness, and sumptuous candied sherry flavours, expertly blended to create a harmonious and sophisticated drinking experience”.
The victory is another amazing achievement for a company that’s only been in existence for four years, and their innovative, cutting edge ageing and blending techniques are clearly working wonders for their distilling.
After picking up the award, the distiller said it was delighted to receive the recognition for the hard work that’s gone into creating the winning drink:
“The Scottish Whisky Awards is a benchmark of excellence, and winning the Gold Medal, again, is a testament to our unwavering commitment to quality,” said Jaynie Kean, Director at RAER.
“The RAER Pedro Ximénez Expression is a harmonious blend that combines the richness of first fill Pedro Ximénez casks with the distinctive character of RAER’s Original Blend. This award is a recognition of our team’s passion and dedication.”
Other notable winners at the awards included Isle of Arran-based distillery Lagg, which picked up the Distillery of the Year Award, while North Star Spirits won the Independent Bottler of the Year prize.
